What is Tussah Silk?
Tussah Silk is a type of natural silk produced by wild silkworms, primarily the Tussah silkworm (Antheraea pernyi). Unlike the more common Mulberry Silk, which comes from domesticated silkworms, Tussah Silk is known for its distinct texture and natural golden-brown color. Its fibers are thicker and more durable than those of Mulberry Silk, giving the fabric a unique, slightly coarser feel.
Benefits for the Human Body
Tussah Silk is valued for its health and comfort benefits, which are a result of its natural composition and properties:
-
Breathability and Moisture-Wicking: Tussah Silk has excellent breathability, which helps regulate body temperature. It can absorb moisture, keeping the skin cool and dry in warm weather, and provides insulation to keep you warm in colder temperatures.
-
Hypoallergenic: As a natural fiber, Tussah Silk is generally free of chemical additives and is resistant to dust mites. This makes it an ideal choice for people with sensitive skin or allergies.
-
Rich in Amino Acids: The protein structure of Tussah Silk is similar to that of human skin. It contains various amino acids that are believed to help nourish and moisturize the skin, contributing to overall skin health.
-
Natural Antimicrobial Properties: The silk has natural resistance to bacteria and mildew, which helps keep bedding and clothing clean and hygienic.
Due to these properties, Tussah Silk products, such as bedding and garments, are a comfortable, healthy, and eco-friendly choice.

Washing
- Hand wash only in cold or lukewarm water (below 30°C).

Rinsing
- Rinse thoroughly with clean, cool water with
- Add a few drops of white vinegar to the final rinse to help maintain silk’s natural shine (optional).
Drying
- Do not tumble dry.
- Lay the fabric flat on a clean towel and roll it gently to remove excess water.
- Hang or lay flat to air dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight.
Ironing
- Iron while the silk is slightly damp on the reverse side.
- Use the lowest heat setting (Silk or Cool) on your iron.
- Place a clean cloth between the iron and the silk to prevent marks or shine.
Storage
- Store silk garments in a cool, dry place away from direct light.
- Avoid hanging heavy silk garments for long periods.
- Keep away from moths by using natural repellents such as lavender or cedar.
