1. **Hand Wash Only – Do Not Machine Wash**
Silk is a delicate fabric that requires gentle handling. Machine washing can compromise the integrity of the silk fibers, leading to loss of sheen and potential whitening.
When hand washing, avoid aggressive rubbing or wringing. Instead, gently agitate the fabric by lifting or pressing it in the water.
2. **Use a pH-Neutral Detergent**
Always opt for a detergent specifically formulated for silk. Avoid alkaline detergents or soap, as they can cause the silk to harden, become brittle, or lose its color.
3. **Wash in Cold Water**
Immerse the silk in cold water (room temperature) for no more than 5-10 minutes before washing. Prolonged soaking or exposure to hot water can damage the fabric’s structure and color.
4. **Drying Instructions**
Do not expose silk to direct sunlight or heat sources such as dryers. Instead, dry the garment in a shaded, well-ventilated area to preserve its color and prevent fiber degradation.
